  • Fifteen Second Video Clips Come to Instagram

As rumored in recent days, Instagram will now begin delivering video capabilities to the popular photo sharing platform acquired by Facebook last year for a cool $1 billion.

Announced moments ago on the official Instagram Blog, video is now another way to share your stories with friends, family, and the world at large on Instagram.

Over the past two and a half years, Instagram has become a community where you can capture and share the world’s moments simply and beautifully. Some moments, however, need more than a static image to come to life. Until now these stories have been missing from Instagram.
Now when you go to take a photo on Instagram, there will be a handy movie camera icon. With a quick tap, you enter video mode. And, get this, you can take up to fifteen seconds of video through the Instagram camera. Better than the six-second alternative of Vine

As you might expect (or at least hope for) Instagram has added a bunch of video filters totaling thirteen as of this writing. "When you post a video, you’ll also be able to select your favorite scene from what you’ve recorded as your cover image so your videos are beautiful even when they’re not playing," the announcement reads.

Apart from the addition of video, Instagram is promising no fundamental changes to the platform except for the fact that it just got a ton cooler.

Check it out for yourself here.

RIP Vine, lol. When they anounced this I was like oh no, bad idea they're trying to do too much. Installed it and my mind was changed completely, it's actually integrated really well. I like it a lot.

Starting to dislike a lot of these social sites. I miss the old days when all we had was MySpace(Before Facebook was even noticed), YouTube, Skype and Windows Live Messenger. Plus a lot of these sites/programs start copying.

Early stages of FaceBook was a different category in contrast to MySpace. It was geared towards college students alone and that exclusivity brought a more mature audience (not to say all college students are mature...but nonetheless more tolerable than the teenie boppers) and that was what I liked about FB. Once FB gained the popularity and opened up to all audiences, just like MySpace, it somehow crushed MySpace and I don't understand why. But regardless, you are correct, before today it was a time where social media was adequate and enjoyable. Now it's just this crazy out of whack thing where there are a million apps and a million different services that all are trying to do the same things. It's making my head spin. I've had FB before it exploded into what it is today, that's why I still use it. I never got into Instagram, though I did look at it and have had it before it became crazily popular, but I didn't even bother to look at vine. It's all just silly IMO.

Also if you think about it. Facebook is like the locked version of iOS while MySpace is a jailbroken version of Facebook.

Haha that is quite the analogy. I concur.
