Prototype iPhone 5 Gaming Controller by Logitech Revealed in New Photo
A recently leaked photo shows a prototype version of a Lightning-enabled iPhone 5 gaming controller made by Logitech. The pictured accessory is supposedly an early build of an official “Made for iPhone” accessory and it provides a glimpse of what an officially sanctioned iPhone gaming controller might look like.
The left side of the controller features a circular D-pad for directional control and the right side has a Lightning connector and space for a duct that will direct sound from the iPhone 5 forward, along with five buttons. What’s not shown in the picture are thumbsticks or trigger buttons, two features that are said to be a part of an official sanctioned “Made for iPhone” controller. Apple detailed the parameters this past week at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference.
Third-party controller support is said to debut this fall with the launch of iOS 7. Accessory makers such as Logitech haven’t indicated when they plan to have accessories available for purchase but it’s likely to either coincide or come shortly after Apple’s conference in the fall.
