  • Apple Raises The Curtain on 'Stunningly Simple' Flatter iOS 7

As expected, Apple today unveiled iOS 7 during the WWDC 2013 keynote, showing off the handy work of Apple's design guru Jonathan Ive and the broader design team. Chatter about a massive resign began less than one year ago when Scott Forestall was fired and replaced by Ive who effectively became the man in charge of the new look and feel of iOS 7.

Introduced through video by Ive personally, iOS 7 "defines an important new direction and a beginning" for the iOS ecosystem. Offering what is best described as a remarkably clean, almost invisible look for iOS, the mobile operating system refresh definitely impressed those on hand at WWDC 2013.

"You are absolutely going to love iOS 7," Cook said, to which an audience member shouted "I love you!"

Perhaps most striking upon first glance in iOS 7 is the motion tracking element. As you move the device, it now tracks your motion and capitalizes on parallax to allow users to see behind the icons. Best of all, Apple says, "it carries over the entire system, this liveliness."

Yes, the design is flatter than what we're used to, but not in a stale or drab fashion as some had feared.

Taking the stage again this morning in San Francisco, Craig Federighi demonstrated the more sleek typography delivered in iOS 7, new icons, and a broad color scheme. Messages, Calendar, and the phone application itself are all touched by the redesign. In Messages, for example, users can just swipe from the left bezel and look at a list of messages.

There's improved browsing, multi-tasking, control center, better photo organization, built-in photo filters, shared photo streams, tabs, airdrop, bookmarks, new Safari, and more. Want to check out the weather? You can tap and swipe through locations, each giving you a gorgeous representations of the weather in these spots (motion thunder, lightning, snow included.)

iOS 7 will even will monitor usage habits so that it can run certain apps automatically upon launch.

There are just some of the many new attributes and aspects of iOS 7. Stay with MMi for more details as the day progresses.

Wow, Apple learned how to copy Android in most of its features. Good Job, I bet that was very difficult to do, and yes I watched the video.

People who think this will kill the JB community are wrong. This update still doesn't allow features that are needed: file system, downloads through the browser, bluetooth file transfer (you ain't always gonna be near Wifi to transfer), quick reply/quick compose, I'm sure the list goes on.

A far more impress update than iOS 6 from Apple though.

File transfer also works over BT (according to Apple website)

I've only watched the keynote and not checked the website. If it is allowed it is about time, this is feature that has been on phones since the early noughties

      From the website:
Sending a photo or a document to someone via text or email is fine. But if that someone is right next to you, a text or an email suddenly feels like too many steps. Enter AirDrop for iOS. It lets you quickly and easily share photos, videos, contacts and anything else from any app with a Share button. Just tap Share, then select the person you want to share with. AirDrop does the rest using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. No setup required. And transfers are encrypted, so what you share is highly secure.3

How disappointing. I mean it looks great but I think if I had iOS 7 today, after 20 minutes of playing with it, I would yawn and click on winterboard...

Hey Fanboy, does everyone like cars or trucks? Grow up. They stole from Metro, JB, and DouDou Linux. Very original!

According to the keynote, the only function that was mentioned for iPhone 5 and up was AirDrop.

iOS 7 looks like a mixture of Windows 8 Metro/Phone, JB, and DouDou Linux. I'm hoping the title, "Apple Raises The Curtain", means that's the first time Apple is showing it, because it's nothing but old stuff.

HOLY BATMAN IT STILL DOESN'T ALLOW YOU TO JUST CLICK REPLY FOR A TEXT/WHATSAPP!!!! REALLLLLLLLLY? Guess we still need a jailbreak for BiteSMS/Messages+. Holy Batman what are they thinking?????????

Oh, it does multitasking? BB did that 10 years ago. It has live weather app. Android 2 years ago. built-in photo filters... we've never seen that before, either! Can you still move a photo to an album and delete it from the camera roll? You double tap the home button and it shows you tiles? Like, OMG that's so awesome!!! Yeah, a year behind on that one, too.

Amazing how Fanboys are like, "omg this is so cool. this is the sh!", but constantly bash Android and BB. All you did was steal from their ideas. smh.

Apple = No longer innovative. I hope the SBSettings owner sues Apple.

And I haven't seen the video, but from reading the article I hope apple is paying R.Petrich for stealing Deep End from him.
What's even funnier is he called that function "Parallax!"
