  • Chronic Dev-Team Issues a Progress Update, Sort of

The jailbreak community is eagerly awaiting the arrival of the latest iOS 4.1 jailbreak. Many are wondering, when will this software be ready, and is greenpois0n really helping things along? Chronic Dev-Team, the primary developers of jailbreaking software, have issued this statement regarding their progress:

“Many people in the comments are asking for a progress update. Any kind of update that we could actually give would be too technical for anyone to understand anyway, not to mention potentially reveal the exploit. Just know that things are going swimmingly and we are working as hard as we can.”

So there you have it. They’re working as hard as they can and it will be ready, when it’s ready. I for one would rather Chronic Dev-Team take their time and get all the bugs out before they release this beast into the wild. Apple is sure to keep a close eye on Chronic Dev-Team’s progress, so any exploits that are revealed can be patched right away. Apple and the Dev-Team are sure to continue their game of cat and mouse for the foreseeable future. I know my iPhone is ready for some greenpois0n jailbreaking.

Familiarize yourself with what is involved, who is working on it, and what the status is on the apps you like and use. This will greatly improve your experience here, and ultimately, everyone else's as well. Now, back on topic. I could have made my own damn jailbreak by now! What the Hell is taking so long? I accidentally updated my phone and now it just stares at me all day...
Nice!!! I love how since blackra1n made everything easy it's brought in what I call the dumb user that only know the how to click a button at home but then "accidentally" update. It's not hard to check the box that says do not ask me again then click cancel instead of "accidentally" clicking download and update then "accidentally" wait for the firmware to load and finally allowing the whole prcess take place. It was nice when a jailbreak required some know-how and scared the average Joe away... If it wasn't for those ppl geohot might have not left. /rant

You hit the nail on the head my friend. I couldn't have said it any better! Don't get me wrong here... I love the fact that the Devs have made jailbreaking so easy again. However, this situation only brings more people into the game that have no clue what's REALLY going on.

Please forgive me for not remembering who quoted this "Oh so great" line, yet it's not word for word.

Clicking the "make it ra1n", or "slide to jailbreak"
DOES NOT MAKE YOU A HACKER!!!

Or just take it off. Your @$$ has been showing the whole time anyway!

Sliding or making it rain is PFM (pure friggin magic) for most end users, and this is where the problem starts. If you have not closed your eyes, AND prayed before you hit a button, you have no real clue as to what is going on. I have hit a few, got that sick feeling in my stomach, then sudden elation as it DID work. WHEW!
I am nowhere near DEV level, but understand enough to proudly say:
"We're not worthy, we're not worthy!"

I am in NO WAY, involved since the beginning of jailbreaks. However, when I got my first "beloved" iPhone, a jailbreak was ALMOST unheard of. Using Pwnage Tool was AWESOME at the time!!! It was a little difficult, probably only because I wasn't sure if my phone would brick or not. But it was the only way I knew using windows. It required A LOT more patience than a click or swipe.

Having gone through these previous motions REALLY makes me appreciate the way that the Dev's are packaging the jailbreaks these days!!!

Please make sure that you've donated to their cause. Planetbeing has an app called "Signal" which is awesome!!! Please help him help us! If you would like to make a donation to Comex he has a link on his Spirit page where he specifically says" If you liked this jailbreak, I greatly appreciate donations"

Just go to www.spiritjb.com and pick the donate link.

Almost unheard of? PwnageTool didn't come out until the game was alive and well. Userland jailbreaks via Safari, anyone? AppTapp, TIFF exploits and native applications long before the AppStore.. relishing in our new tool called Installer.. ah, good old days.

Just cuz some of us don't post everyday doesn't mean we're not oldfags

I never said it was unheard of... I said "ALMOST", let me re-phrase this just for you....

No one that I knew or even worked with knew what a jailbreak was, more or less Pwnage Tool.

Hope this clears everything up for you.

..lol, why are you mad? I quoted you word for word, did I not?

I just find it funny that people talk of PwnageTool and 3.0 jailbreaks like they were the old days. You guys weren't around for the birth of jailbreaking, or at least don't remember it. It's amazing what it's evolved into since the beginning.

The only scene I can even compare it to is the Wii. Anyone who's seen USB Loader GX knows what I'm talking about. Sh!t is insane, and I love our devs for it. Our dear @comex was responsible one of the largest jailbreaks for Wii too! (and you can't find a way to donate because he doesn't want donations, btw.)
