  • Apple Finally Gives into Flash... Kinda... a Little

Its seems the folks at Apple finally found that chill pill we had all hoped the company's executives would take at some point regarding Cupertino's strict, unrelenting, and, until now, less than malleable rules regarding Flash for iPhone, iPod, and iPad applications.

On Thursday, however, Apple took a step back in hopes of quieting down the masses who claim that Apple's harsh restrictions for developers are "anti-competitive." In a nutshell, Apple said today that it will allow for scenarios in which Adobe’s Flash video software will work on Apple’s products.

In particular, we are relaxing all restrictions on the development tools used to create iOS apps, as long as the resulting apps do not download any code. This should give developers the flexibility they want, while preserving the security we need.
With regulators, media, and cynical consumers breathing down Apple's back relentlessly on the company's anti-Flash posturing, it doesn't come as a complete shock that Apple is - at least somewhat - relaxing its uptight no-Flash policy, while still propping up its "security concerns" as a fail-safe for ensuring that Flash doesn't see runaway, rampant growth on the iOS platform.

And why are you so completely and utterly against this? All of your "flash on iOS" posts are basically calling people idiots for wanting this. Forget the fact that it's flash and simply recognize that Apple has been pressured to lift (even if just a little bit) it's Nazi grip on the platform by us, the people, and the government! All I can say is "more please" regardless of whether or not I will make use of this new change. We don't need Apple playing "netnanny" and telling us what is and isn't good for us...
Agreed. Some of the mods here seem to think that their opinion holds more weight than others for some odd reason...

Sounding like a broken record will not make the rest of us think they know what their talking about..

Very poor written article. Not very clear to the average reader.
Lol true, but anyways if the iphone were to get flash video playing capabilities i bet it would drain battery like crazy ( like the Droid 1 running flash on froyo). Or apple would only make it available on newer devices even though older ones might support it (like game center on iphone 3g) lol. Everythings getting converted to HTML 5 anyways and for those that keep saying they want to watch youtube, youtube has been supported by mobile safari for like ever now and theres also a preinstalled app called youtube that lets you watch... youtube

First: LMAO this flash story will never end.
Second: I totally agree. Damn Apple fanboys. They feel the need to back apple 100% all the time.

And third: Why flash? One word: Youporn

There's plenty of iPhone friendly porn sites if that's what floats your boat. As for the topic at hand that doesn't really have anything to do with Flash... does this mean we can maybe get some app-writing going on Windows via other tools? As long as it compiles and it run through the App Store it should be good if I'm reading this right.

And people wanting flash are idiots, it's not really an argument.

Flash, Python, and Ruby are some examples you can build on Windows. I'm not 100% sure how the compiling will work and how the apps will get signed. I'll have to check on all that.

Niiice does this mean there will be the possibilty of having AppStore browser apps that can handle flash games/videos such as YouTube and miniclip.com?

Well said. I don't think Messany knows what he's writing about or doesn't care to make clear what the information is actually stating just to get flashboys all wet in the crotch.. Apple have always made it clear it doesn't want to tie it's devices to 3rd party ipa's for very practical reasons. (Makes signing a freakin nightmare). And all for a stupid web plugin, Pffft. It's about allowing coding tools for content written from programs other than Xcode. It's about the tools you tools.

And before all you little flash fanboys cream your jeans over thinking flash will come to the iPhone, ha ha, read the link to the article and get your hands out of your pockets. Losers!! Ha. I love how you froth at the mouth when you clearly don't understand the article.

Having flash on a mobile device is like having a donkey pull your Ferrari.

My point is, do we really need to sit here in a forum and spend our time calling people names and degrading them? What did you achieve by announcing that people who want flash are idiots? Does your c^@$k feel a little bigger somehow? If someone wants flash on their phone, let them want flash. What a wonderful world it would be if the biggest thing we have to worry about is these "idiots" who want flash on their phones...

Part of my school's website use flash inside the classes to see certain things (timer on quizzes, certain recorded lectures, some interactive documents, etc.)... This is why it would benefit me. I'm sure others are the same.

I'm jailbroken, but would much rather it... Just work.
