Coffee with Tim Cook Auctions For $610,000
In late April, MMi reported that CharityBuzz, a web-based company that raises funds for nonprofit organizations through online charity auctions that often involve high-profile celebrities, posted for auction a rare opportunity to meet with Tim Cook over coffee in Cupertino.
With proceeds benefiting The RFK Center for Justice and Human Rights, a meeting with the Apple CEO was believed to have an estimated value of $50,000. Today, the auction closed. And the coffee meeting with Cook was sold for an astronomical sum.
Following 86 bids, coffee with Cook went to an anonymous bidder who paid $610,000 for the opportunity. Although this charitable meeting still doesn't compete with what some pay for lunch with billionaire investor Warren Buffett (lunch with Buffett sold for $3.45 million last year), it's impressive nonetheless.
As of this writing, we don't know why the bidder was willing to pay so much for the meeting. Perhaps he really loves the cause. Or Apple. Or just coffee.
