  • iPhone 5S May Introduce Sapphire Crystal Touch Home Button

The hottest chatter emerging from the rumor mill today is that Apple's next-generation iPhone 5S, which could debut within the next 8-12 weeks, may present a snazzy new fingerprint-scanning home button enclosed by a scratch-proof sapphire crystal glass.

Although rumors have persisted for some time now with regard to Apple introducing a fingerprint sensor in a subsequent iPhone refresh, this news from supply chain sources in Taiwan suggests the possibility of a much bigger effort on Apple's part to make the home button as revolutionary as possible.

Itís thought that using sapphire crystal, which has a hardness second only to diamond, will prevent the button from getting scratched and ruining the fingerprint sensor.
Apple, of course, has already demonstrated an appetite for sapphire crystal, as evidenced by the iPhone 5 camera lens on its back. Apple opted for sapphire crystal as a means to minimize scratches and preserve photo quality for users.

For now, sources speaking with Taiwanese website TechNew maintain the sapphire crystal touch home button is practically a sure-thing on the next iPhone refresh.

Because its important that people know you have the latest phone and how great you are?

The redesigned models are Guinea Pig's. The 'S' models have all the problems ironed out and are superior.

If you own phones to show off like Javiert then buy the X models and upgrade every 2nd year. If you buy phones because you want a good phone then buy the XS models every 2nd year.

I wonder if a touch home button will create more problems due to accidental touches.

Me, I never buy the Xs. "S" is better than 5 of course (small improvement in hardware sometimes) but 6 will be a big improvement in hardware than 5, so I will wait. Why waste my upgrade in one "5S" when I can use it for the next iPhone 6. Look at the iPhone 4 case, I see somebody with an iPhone 4S and you can't tell if it is 4 or 4S.
Why waste a good upgrade I,am waiting for the I phone 6 and ios7.

But theres your problem. A 5 is better than a 4S is it not?
My 4S was way better than my 5. Who cares what's under the hood when I have to charge it 2x in 6hrs or less. You can't go anywhere without a charger in your pocket.

The S's are always better because Apple rushes the original models and don't notice all the problems with them until after it's released and people complain. With the S models they go back and spend more time perfecting it, fixing the problems, etc. and making it like it should have been in the first place.

Why? What the hell are u using the phone 4? If you are using 6hr nonstop then wow I thought I was a power user!!! Lol I charge mi i5 once a day it lasts between 10-12 hrs. Unless you are playing games or watching videos like crazy then maybe I don't know... But 6hrs it's a little extreme. Power cycle that boy maybe it'll help.

Highly unlikely. They don't do iPod refreshes this early.

I would. I've never been anywhere that has NFC for commercial use. Nor do I know a soul who actually uses NFC to begin with. It's honestly more useless than the security of a fingerprint scanner.
