  • Don't Expect a Jailbreak for iOS 4.0.2/3.2.2

With the release of iOS 4.1 expected in a few weeks, the Dev-Team has made an announcement informing users not to expect any new jailbreak from them for the previously released iOS 4.0.2/3.2.2. It had been warned several times, prior to the release even, to stay away from these updates, as they were only pushed to block the JailbreakMe.com exploits being used, offering nothing more to the user other than prevention method from jailbreaking.

With Apple now shipping new orders with this newer firmware, many people wanted to know if there was something in the works, so they too could join in, but unfortunately, those who have bought stock with 4.0.2 on it will have to wait it out for iOS 4.1 to be jailbroken.

No, there won’t be... With FW 4.1 still in its beta stages, it makes no sense to escalate the “cat & mouse” with Apple for FW updates that only fix the jailbreak holes. To quote WOPR, “the only winning move is not to play”. At best, some future 4.1x FW jailbreak *may* be compatible with 4.0.2/3.2.2 (but don’t count on that).
Sometimes you can't win them all. So if your on 4.0.2, be patient, iOS 4.1 is right around the corner. As for those of you that were quick enough to get their devices jailbroken, and saved their SHSH Blobs with Cydia, you'll be able to benefit from this exploit as long as you wish. Just make sure you check out our guides section.

If however, you have an iPhone 3G or an iPod Touch 2G (Non-MC) , your still in luck, as well as the older iPhone models. Simply use redsn0w to jailbreak.

I kind of did the same but I got lucky. My phone was jail broke but I also restored it to 4.02. I saved my SHH files in Cydia before it crashed. If it was jail broke before possibly the previous owner saved the SHH files. You can find out using tiny umbrella.

google tiny umbrella, install it to you PC or mac. It is better to read the description from the web site. You can also do a search on youtube. There are a lot of videos that will demo how to run the program.

I know there isn't going to be a 4.0.2 jailbreak due to the release of ios 4.1, but I want to know if the new jailbreak will benefit 3GS users. I saw a post saying the ph had the be previously jailbroken for the crack to work which I don't understand considering newer phones are being shipped with ios 4.0.2. Is this information correct?

      Apple no longer signs 4.0.1

Firmware 4.0.2 has only been release within the last few days. Maybe 1 week or so. The problem is you cannot go back from 4.0.2 unless you had SHH saved on the Cydia site. In other words if it had been jailbreaked.

So will the upcoming 4.1 jailbreak work for 3GS once you upgrade from 4.0.2?

I just bought an iPhone 4g with the stupid os4.02. How do I downgrade to 4.01 so that I can jailbreak this thing. I have tried the Iclarified ispw but redsn0w will not recognize it nor will iTunes restore with the downloaded ispw.

Yup! I did this exactly and was successful at jailbreaking my iPhone 3G doing this and my phone is jailbroken with it showing 4.0.2 as the current firmware. No problems as of yet!

The first of those links is good. The other two are very out of date. I didn't realize people were still posting comments on the second one!
