'Platinum' Gives Mobile Safari a Chrome-like Auto-complete Feature
One of the nice features that exist in Google Chrome for iOS is the auto-complete feature without search. The feature allows you to auto-complete a search query based on search suggestions without actually initiating the search immediately, which makes it easier to better narrow down your search. The feature is especially useful when you’re not exactly sure of what you are looking for and want the search suggestions to help you out automatically.
A new free jailbreak tweak called Platinum
by iOS developer iStopped aims to bring this feature to iOS’ Mobile Safari. As shown above, the tweak adds blue arrows to each search suggestion, which when tapped, auto-fill the item you tapped the blue arrow for without actually initiating a search for the item.
Google Chrome for iOS uses a similar setup, as shown below:
The nice part about the feature is that when you tap on a blue arrow to auto-fill the search field with an item you see, the search suggestions automatically update with suggestions based on the auto-filled query.
Because the auto-filled query isn't automatically searched for, you can easily edit the search field before finalizing your search. Tapping on individual items instead of the new blue arrow to the right of the item that was added by the tweak will initiate a search for the item as usual.
Platinum is available as a free download from Cydia’s ModMyi repository.
