After several years of beta testing, the popular Swype keyboard made its official debut on Android earlier this week. As of right now, although its only available on a handful of platforms, Swype vice president Aaron Sheedy has mentioned that there is a chance that we could see Swype’s technology on iOS in the future.
Sheedy confirmed that his company has held talks with Apple, sparking speculation that suggests the pair are working together to help develop a “revolutionary” new keyboard – possibly one we might see in the upcoming iOS 7 update. This was originally brought up in Sheedy’s AMA or “Ask Me Anything” thread on Reddit. A curious Redditor asked the following:
I was curious as to whether you’ve ever had any contact with Apple. Any conversations to see if they might have been interested in licensing your technology?
Hah. The million (ok billion) $ questions. Yes, we have chatted with them, they are very smart and nice.
Ultimately, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens but those of us who are interested in the technology can keep our hopes up and fingers crossed.
