  • 'Atom' is a Gorgeous New Lock Screen Tweak You'll Want to Get Right Now

If you’re looking to spice up the usability of your iOS lock screen, then you’ll want to try your hand at atom, a new lock screen-enhancing tweak by iOS developer Tyler Nettleton and Graphic Designer Surenix.

Atom re-imagines the way the lock screen is used. Rather than taking Apple’s idea of the lock screen into consideration and using the lock screen as a way to get into your device, atom tries to make the lock screen into a splash page for your device. This means giving you up to six application shortcuts, as well as a way to unlock the device. The name "atom" comes from the fact that the interface literally looks like an atom:

From a first glance, the only thing you see on your lock screen is the small black circle at the bottom of the display. When you tap and hold on the black circle, all six of your application shortcuts appear, as well as a way to unlock your iOS device. You can launch any of the six applications by dragging the black circle and dropping it over an application icon. Alternatively, you can drag the black circle over the unlock icon to unlock the device normally.

Atom includes some fun animations too. As you drag the black circle over individual application icons, or the unlock icon, the item you drag over will increase in size, as everything around it decreases in size. This is a fluid animation that helps you focus on the item you’re currently hovering over, and it’s a nice demonstration of feedback from the tweak:

When you land on an application icon and release the black circle, the iOS device will unlock immediately and launch the application you landed on. In the event where you have a passcode, the device will ask you for your passcode before allowing you to unlock the device, so there’s no need to worry about security with atom.

From atom's preferences pane in the Settings application, you will be able to choose the six application shortcuts you want to set for the atom lock screen interface. You can use any stock applications, or third party applications of your choice:

Currently, atom will override your settings for lock sounds in the Settings application. If you have it set to off, atom will still sound an unlock noise. An update is coming soon to address this. Atom is only available for the iPhone and iPod touch for now – iPad support is coming soon!

Atom is available right now for $1.99 in Cydia’s BigBoss repository! – Grab it while it's hot!

It must be a tweak conflict that he has because obviously, the 5 is much faster than the 4S.
Speed in that it's a quick access to the camera without needing to enter the unlock code. If my phone isn't locked, then the camera access thru atom is plenty fast. But I have my settings set to lock the phone after 15 minutes. So having the instant access to the camera without unlocking is something I've used quite a bit. In my mind it's all that's missing.

Okay, I hear you. I never use the pass code on my phone so it doesn't bother me.

I think it's more of a security thing than anything

I can confirm Torch works fine with atom.

With the stock lock screen camera the phone remains locked. Just lets you take pics. Doesn't even let you see the camera roll until you unlock. It's a pretty cool feature.

Something I learn from past experiance and reading:

Please have sbsetting or activator installed.

Reason is: be it Atom, jellylock, grabby, androidlock, unfold, stride, etc,
Anthing goes wrong during theming or updates, you can goes to safe mode to uninstall. Or set a activator before hand to unlock phone.
Else you will be stuck at the lockscreen in the worst possible sencerio.

      Just saying........

Here's another little issue. If you use Siri from the lock screen, if you dismiss it, the slider pops up again. Sometimes it stays until you open the phone, sometimes it's only there for a split second. Just a minor little annoyance.

I have a small issue when use it with lockinfo. If I unlock an app via atom, and then lock the phone. When there are some notifications, I choose to slide the notification bar in lockscreen (via lockinfo), then sometimes, it might open the app I opened via atom earlier. It happens sometimes, not every time. But it will be not good feeling when it happens.

If by odd you mean different, then ya it's pretty odd, and that's what makes it awesome! I've been bored of the lock slider for a couple years now. Atom is really cool when you switch up the [email protected] with something else. Here's the one I made

The other thing that bugs me about the tweak is the presence of the little knob in the background if you have a passcode protected phone. It's a nitpick, but it still is rather distracting.

There is an issue I found with the new update:

      http://www.ipicit.net/picit/1367933629.263.iPicit.jpg

It happens when you press the sleep button during the passcode prompt.

Also, the update hides the knob during passcode insertion. This however, does not apply when the device is rebooted And automatically asks for the passcode.

I like the tweak but it really seems to be draining the hell out of my battery.

Works fine for me. I found when I was jailbroken with Evasi0n everything put a drain on my battery. I'm using Limra1n now and I get battery life pretty much as if I was jailed.

Exactly why I didn't update. Mine works flawlessly the way it is (I don't use a passcode) so why fix something that isn't broken

Personally, I like to use a passcode because I like to keep my phone protected.

If you don't use one that's fine for you.

Only issue I see: No way at all to disable or close the app without uninstalling it via Cydia.

The new update must've broken something for me. I have 6 but for some reason only 3 appear. I tried uninstalling and re installing several times but nothing. I shouldn't have updated since it was working fine
