  • 'Abstergo' is an Upcoming Jailbreak Tweak That Will Maximize iOS Notification Control

Those of you that want more features for controlling your notifications on your iOS device are going to love an upcoming jailbreak tweak dubbed Abstergo by human interface designer Joshua Tucker and iOS developer Andrew Richardson.

Abstergo comes with a handful of individual features that let you manage your notifications. For starters, you will be able to remind yourself of incoming text messages and iMessages by holding down in the message bubble, which is great for when you’re busy at the moment, and want to reply to the text message later without forgetting that you received the text message:

When you choose to remind yourself of an incoming message, you will be allowed to choose between being reminded in 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 1 hour, 1 day, or on a specific day. After you choose a reminder time, you will notice that Notification Center will display the notification with a little clock icon next to the time you received the notification to indicate that you will be reminded of the notification.

The reminder feature also works the same way for incoming notifications that aren’t messages, such as Tweets, Facebook notifications, and others. You can hold down on notification banners, Lock Screen notifications, and Notification Center notifications to pull up the same reminders interface:

Another thing about iOS notifications that can be annoying is that when you unlock your iOS device, all of your Lock Screen notifications disappear. They show up in Notification Center, but they stop appearing on your Lock Screen, which is the first thing you see every time you wake up your iOS device. Because of this, it makes sense that they should be sticky on the Lock Screen. Don’t worry – Abstergo has you covered there too.

Any notifications in Notification Center that you’ve set to be reminded about can be added to the Lock Screen to be visible there too where they will remain until you clear them from the Lock Screen; they stay there even if you unlock and lock your device over and over. You do this by holding down on the notification, after which you will be given the option to add the notification to the Lock Screen, edit the reminder timer, or clear the reminder for the notification:

Notably, if you hold down on a notification you've set to be reminded of on the Lock Screen, you will get the options to remove the notification from the Lock Screen, edit the time you will be reminded of the notification, or clear the reminder for the notification.

Abstergo also adds intelligent notification clearing options. This makes it simple to clear all your notifications from the Lock Screen, all at once or individually, as well as clear all your notifications from Notification Center, all at once or individually. Clearing individual notifications from the Lock Screen is done by swiping on notifications to bring up a clear button that will remove the individual notification from the Lock Screen, or you can pull down from the top of the Lock Screen notification list to reveal a clear all slider – sliding this slider will empty your Lock Screen of all notifications:

Since Notification Center comes with a Clear button already that can be used to dismiss several notifications at once by application grouping, there is no clear all slider for Notification Center. On the other hand, you can now remove individual notifications for an application group without clearing all notifications for an application group by swiping on the individual notifications to reveal a Clear button:

Abstergo is definitely going to bring a new feeling of notification control to iOS and is set to be released on April 21, 2013 (this coming Sunday). It will be $1.99 and it will work on all iOS 6 iPhones, iPod touches, and iPads. We will have more information on the tweak when the release date hits!

Or if you get intelliscreen x you don't really need this at all.

Another tweak that will keep your notifications on the LockScreen is LockInfo, but it doesn't have the reminder feature and I think it's more expensive.

This tweak is completely different than intelliscreenX as this doesn't just focus only on the notification center. it focuses on other things like notifications, and reminders.

I wonder if the word "Abstergo" is copyrighted because of Assassin's Creed.

Haha well not quite . We chose the name for a different reason actually. The word Abstergo comes from the Latin word "abstérgere" which means "to clean or wipe away". Neat, huh?

We don't believe so! The word Abstergo comes from the Latin word "abstérgere" which means "to clean or wipe away". We didn't name it in relation to Assassin's Creed.

Much cheaper than Intelliscreen X and has a few more options. More bang for your buck!

Both tweaks have a completely different focus, so each tweak does something the other does not. Abstergo is not an IntelliscreenX replacement nor vice-versa.

So is it compatible with lock info?

Did anyone test this in conjunction with LockInfo? Do they cope well together? I'd like the reminder feature, but I'm holding back until I figure out if there are some incompatibility issues, something I wouldn't be surprised to see given what both tweaks do.

Learn what the app does before you compare it.
This one is great. It's like hitting the snooze alarm on your notifications.
