  • 'Beacon' Enables the Initial Animated Apple Boot Animation for Every Respring or Reboot

If youíve ever done a respring, or a reboot, then you might be familiar with the way that the Apple logo appears until your lock screen finally appears. Itís simply that Ė a boring, non-animated, Apple logo.

A new jailbreak tweak called Beacon by iOS developer Evan Swick enables the animated Apple boot animation that appears on the display the first time you turn on your iOS device after a fresh restore. This way, youíll see this awesome animated Apple logo right before you see your lock screen, rather than a dull, non-animated Apple logo.

The animated Apple logo appears every time you reboot your device, or respring it. The tweak comes with a preferences pane in the Settings application, where you can choose the transition style from the basic Apple logo to the animated one:

The transitions you have to choose from include:

    • Flip from left
    • Flip from right
    • Curl up
    • Curl down
    • Dissolve
    • Flip from top
    • Flip from bottom

Beacon is a very simple, and subtle change for iOS, but at the same time, itís a very pleasing one. This is one of those simple jailbreak tweaks that makes the iOS experience just that much better. Itís odd how Apple hasnít already made features like this stock with iOS.

Beacon works on any device, whether it's an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. The device just needs to be running iOS 5 or later.

    Name: Beacon
    Price: 99Ę
    Version: 0.9.8-4
    Requirements: iOS 5+
    Repo: BigBoss
    Developer: Evan Swick
    Editor's Rating:  5/5

Considering it is only active on resprings and reboots, I can't imagine it being anything but lightweight...

Everything you need to do things like this has some sort of documentation, somewhere online, no matter how hard you have to look to find it. (And MobileSubstrate info is definitely hard to find)
You make creating apps sound so easy. I'm interested in creating my own apps but have no idea where to even start (programs to use, codes to know, etc.) Any tips for helping me create simple applications such as this one? Thanks.

I think he means something like Animate does, where you could put your own photo or animation instead of just the apple logo.

I have a few ideas for tweaks and such as well...
Pretty much have any computer program needed.
Mind sharing where to even start?

I almost spent a dollar on this immediately, but after some research it doesn't actually replace the boring respring gear, it's simply an animation that runs before your lockscreen appears.

It's pretty cool, nonetheless, but what we really need is a way to replace the initial respring animations.
