  • TinyUmbrella Updated - Save Your SHSH Files!
With the new iOS 4.1 update around the corner, it is more important than ever to back up your SHSH files to ensure that you will be able to downgrade to 4.0 after the new update has been released.

TinyUmbrella, a handy application which allows you to both save your SHSH files and also use them to downgrade, isn't new - but it has been updated with performance improvements and a nice big GUI upgrade. More information on the improvements and the new features can be found at the developers blog, here. With 4.1 right around the corner, we figured now's a good time to remind everyone.

A recent tweet from @planetbeing stresses the importance to back up your SHSH Blobs before updating to the new 4.1 firmware.

Saving your SHSH Blobs using TinyUmbrella is very easy, and takes hardly any time at all. One of the advantages of using TinyUmbrella to save your SHSH is that it bypasses the need for a jailbroken device. Also, when downgrading a device, TinyUmbrella sets up its own virtual server on your machine, and tells iTunes to connect to it via your hosts file. All this is automated and separate from the Cydia server, making it a lot simpler to downgrade. Because your SHSH files are saved locally, you may also back them up yourself, as oppose to them being stored on a server somewhere where you can't access them.

TinyUmbrella can be downloaded from here.

xsemaphorex is the man for this tool. I've been using it ever since the first release, and it's always worked flawlessly. Now it's even super simple to use. By the way, for folks that have SHSH's for older firmware versions saved with Cydia, you can use this to retrieve those files as well to save locally.

I'm a noob to this. I already have my 3.1.2 SHSH back up but I am wondering if I upgrade to back up my SHSH on 4.0 will in replace my blobs from 3.1.2 or no because I want to be able to downgrade after I back up my SHSH blobs for 4.0 in case the jalbreak doesn't work on 4.1.

no, it'll just save blobs for 4.0 as well. many users have 3.1.2 and 3.1.3.

done it as soon as he tweeted...
for the guy that said he update by accidently, forgive him guys, he said it's just a joke and he was kidding, so take it easy on him, c'mon you're smarter than believing that a beta update could happen accidentally.

Is there like a helpful guide for noobs like me who've never use TinyUmbrella. I heard that you have to put your device in DFU mode or something when you do this I think. I would like to see a guide so I dont screw this up.

Also how do you get out of DFU mode?

My friend, it has nothing to do with DFU. You save you SHSH for future jailbreaking.
