  • Real Flash on the iPhone! [VIDEO]
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wBktYBXMK0]YouTube - A preview[/ame]

    Comex, the developer behind the latest and most compatible jailbreak to date, Spirit, recently tweeted a video of an iPhone that is apparently playing REAL Adobe Flash content at full speed. He states in the video description that it is "very preliminary," as can be seen by the minor graphical glitches on the screen, but the fact is that it seems to be opening and executing Flash content just fine. No other information has been unveiled yet; it is unknown if this project is to be eventually worked into Safari as its own plugin or if it will have to stay as a standalone app.

    Apple's distaste with Flash has led quite a few developers to work on their own workarounds to get Flash content working on the iPhone. Some of the most notable include iMobileCinema, a Safari plugin that has been around for a while that attempts to play video content embedded in Flash, Gordon and Smokescreen, two Flash interpreters written entirely in Javascript (which iOS and MobileSafari handle just fine, if slowly), and Flash In A Pinch and CloudBrowse, which actually render Flash content on a remote server, then stream down the images (and sound in the case of CloudBrowse) of the webpage to your iDevice. However, none of these workarounds could really be considered a "Flash player" considering the limitations that each solution has in place. This project, should it come to fruition, would be the first real Flash player for iPhone, and comex has already proven his skill by releasing the first ever untethered 3G S/G3 iTouch jailbreak.

    Follow comex on Twitter, and check back to this thread for any future updates on the project.

    (Here are the links to the first and the second Flash movie demoed in the video.)

      Apple is indeed aware that Flash can run on the iPhone, and there have been builds of Flash running on older iPhones at Cupertino, the problem is not whether and can run or not, it's how well it can run, and Apple gave Adobe PLENTY time to produce a version that meets Apple's expectation, and Adobe dropped the ball.

      Nice job, but jesus christ... is it that difficult to take a decent video? Why must this guy have a reflection of a god damn chandelier, hold the camera under his armpit, and have zero focusing ability?

      Pretty cool but I fear that without official Apple support it really will be as bad as what Steve Jobs predicts. There will obviously never be *hardware acceleration* without Apple cooperation. Moreover, some of the features in the Android implementation (which will not 100% finished is already pretty great) like ondemand (all flash is click-to-flash in browser instead of always on) and the auto-unload once something is not currently in view are a necessity to protect battery life and prevent flash *advertisements* from taking over the phone.

      Looks like he wrote an App just for this, and then pre-loaded the content into it. Probably still a long way from being actually useful. At any rate, I'm skeptical that we can ever get the Flash experience we deserve unless Apple and Adobe work together . . .

      You would think someone like him could at least film a half decent video.

      Why would you :

      A) need clarity on a proof of concept that is barely usable
      B) or need any other proof then that from a person who bought u a jailbreak

      Stop whining on clarity and just be happy it might come in the future

      Flash FTW. There's too many sites that use it and HTML5 isn't coming anytime soon.
