  • iPhone 5 Comes to T-Mobile April 12

More than five years after Apple's groundbreaking iPhone debuted exclusively on AT&T in the United States (before later expanding to Verizon and Sprint) it's now official. Subscribers of T-Mobile will have access to Apple's iPhone 5 beginning April 12th.

As widely anticipated in recent days, Apple's new partnership with T-Mobile will likely provide a tremendous boost to the nation's fourth largest carrier.

On Tuesday at T-Mobile's "uncarrier" event, the company confirmed that it wants to set itself apart from leading rivals AT&T, Verizon and Sprint. In order to do that, T-Mobile will offer a 16-gigabyte iPhone 5 for just $99 up front, followed by 24 monthly payments of $20.

Although the iPhone officially goes on sale at T-Mobile on April 12th, preorders begin next Friday, April 5th.

"The revamped No. 4 carrier is still the underdog," writes Ina Fried of AllThingsD, "but now the company has some of the pieces it has long been missing. T-Mobile has been readying an LTE network, making plans to stop subsidizing new phones, and has struck a deal to start selling the iPhone."

The question is will it support AWS or the 1700/2100 that T-Mobile uses for it's HSPDA? If not I don't see the point in having an iPhone on EDGE because it's painfully slow.

I'd have to Agree, but if you can Afford to pay the $20 a month extra why not just buy one via Amazon or EBay & use it, why not just get the 8GB iPhone? oh wait..that's the 4 not the 5, but still if you can afford the $20 extra, just buy it, it's basically like leasing the Phone so even if they come out with a Jailbreak for 6.1.3 really you can't jailbreak it because TECHNICALLY it's not really your phone. So why not just buy it At full price? Sure you'll $70 but it's not really saving anything because it's not yours to begin with.

I've been told that the unlimited data option could possibly be only unlimited for 6 months... Any one know any details?

The reason why they were a big deal: The first few years of the iPhone, the only carrier was AT&T... If you didn't like their service, plans/pricing or just didn't want to pay say a $500 deposit, then you unlocked and went T-Mo... It was either $100+ a month plus a contract with AT&T, or a pay as you go plan with T-Mo... Like I posted earlier, I had a $20 a month unlimited data plan which gave me unlimited text/calling too because of my google voice... Look at blkcadis sweet deal... If you we're into jail breaking in the beginning of the iPhone, then it was an option instead of the AT&T monopoly of the devices...

And what website did you unlock your iPhone? Can I unlock my AT&T locked iPhone 4 as well like you did for $8?
