  • Apple's iOS Update Blocks evasi0n Jailbreak After It's Been Used 18 Million Times

Apple has officially taken down one of the most infamous jailbreaks of all time, evasi0n, on iOS 6.1.3. Released on February 4, the jailbreak lasted about six weeks before Apple released the update yesterday and disabled it. According to Saurik, also known as Jay Freeman, the jailbreak reached 18 million devices on iOS 6- including iPhones, iPod Touches and iPads.

Freeman reported to Fortune that the total number of jailbreaks from Evasi0n topped previous records and counted 13.8 million iPhones, 3.4 million iPads, and 1.1 million iPod Touches. Compared to previous jailbreaks, Apple took a much longer time patching evasi0n whereas for JailbreakMe 3, Apple only needed nine days to patch over it.

According to David Wang, one of the four creators of evasi0n, at least one of the bugs is still in Apple’s operating system. He also mentioned to Forbes that evad3rs (the hacker team who worked on evasi0n) has backup secret bugs that’s being saved for future jailbreaks. Although it is unknown exactly how many of the bugs will be patched in iOS 6.1.3, they do not plan on creating a new jailbreak until maybe the next major release.

For users who have already updated to iOS 6.1.3, sorry to say, but you have lost the ability to jailbreak your devices for months or possibly even longer according to Forbes. After 43 days and through two software updates, Apple officially takes out evasi0n.

Dude, if you're on 5.1.1 then you should be fine. I assume you are jailbroken and open the cydia app at least once a month. If this is the case then you can restore to 5.1.1 through 6.1.2 because cydia grabs blobs for your device when you use the app.

Apple isn't the only company that forces you to update to the newest software. They all do.

Then you're stuck with a stock phone until the next jailbreak comes out.

Not true. For example, I have an android phone that is still on 2.3.6. I can still find plenty of software for it. When you go to google play, it will clearly show which software is compatible and which is not, and for the ones compatible there are variations of the software. You go to itunes and THERE IS NO WAY ANYMORE TO FIND SOFTWARE THAT RUNS ON AN OLD IPHONE 2. The older, perfectly fine, software is yanked out of the store and you can only get the newest, incompatible software.

I honestly don't see what is compelling enough to even be interested in 6.1.3. I don't use a passcode on my device (I don't have anything that secretive there that doesn't have it's own password) and I don't have any plans to go to Japan, so why update?

I will be on 6.1.2 for a long while. For now power to the hackers

Unfortunately my jailbroken device had an issue with the power button--it would only work **some of the time** if you pressed the left side. The right side of the button didn't work at all :-/ so I had to order a warranty replacement. When I did the comprehensive backup through iTunes, restored my jailbroken device so it could be sent back to Verizon, then applied everything to the replacement phone, it forced me to update. Horrible. Looks like I'm stuck for a while......Come on jb'ers!!! You can do it!! I know you can!!

Ugh, that sucks. It's probably gonna be a while. I wonder if they will even bother trying to crack this or just wait until 7. I'm glad I finally switched to 6.1.2 a couple weeks ago and rejailbroke my ****.

Most of those would continue to buy Apple goods even if they could not Jailbreak their iOS devices. So there would be no dent in Apple's stock.

Apple are the real losers here. I was thinking of getting a 2nd hand iPhone 4S but not anymore. If it cant be jailbroken then there is no way I will get one.
I will never get a iPhone 5 or above. They changed the plug so none of my extras will work and it wont connect to the car so I just cant get one. Thats another reason why the 4S is the highest iPhone I can ever get. Not going to waste more money on expensive cables.

Still got my eyes on a Galaxy S4. Just need to find one at the right price when they become available.
There is a simple adapter out there that solves the problem...

Finding the right price is going to be hard. When they hit eBay within the first couple of days the prices will be in the clouds.

True. Im a iPhone user but if they say its the easier of the softwares to use. I find it funny that it takes months for a jail break to come out but the androids can be rooted before they even come out.

Nope, but you CAN use them with a micro USB cable available almost everywhere (and at reasonable prices) that are also used by other devices.
