Samsung Confirms Smart Watch Showdown with Apple
Despite Apple's unwillingness to confirm plans for a so-called "smart watch," an Apple-branded wrist-worn iDevice is all but certainly in the works based on patent filings, supply chain chatter, and industry analyst sources in the know.
Not surprisingly, Apple's greatest rival in the mobile device space today isn't willing to stand by and just watch the Cupertino, California-based iPhone maker simply corner a new market all by itself. As a result, an executive with Samsung has confirmed plans for the company to market a (presumably Android-powered) smart watch of its own.
“We’ve been preparing the watch product for so long,” Lee Young Hee, executive vice president of Samsung’s mobile business, tells Bloomberg. “We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them.”
Lee, however, offered no insight on the features we can expect, when the watch will be released, or what it will ultimately cost.
