  • Apple Releases iOS 6.1.3

[WARNING: Jailbreakers should avoid the update, as there is no returning to 6.1.2 JB (even if you saved blobs) with the exception of iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G)]

Apple on Tuesday issued the latest update for iOS. iOS 6.1.3 is now available. From what we can tell, the update chiefly fixes a few minor issues. According to Apple:

This update contains improvements and other bug fixes including:

    - Fixes a bug that could allow someone to bypass the passcode and access the Phone app
    - Improvements to Maps in Japan
Especially noteworthy, of course, is that iOS 6.1.3 (Build 10B329) appears to address one of the security holes utilized by the evasi0n jailbreak tool. So jailbreakers be warned. It's best to avoid the update for the time being.

I think a better question would have to be, why is anyone still on iOS 5? Unless you have the first iPad, everyone should've updated to iOS 6.1.2 and jailbroken their devices. If you didn't do that in the couple of months that the jailbreak was out, you don't deserve to have a iOS 6 jailbroken device.

iPhone 4 can restore to 6.1.2 with the help of redsnow's stitch shsh option. Assuming you have 6.1.2 shsh of course. Same for 3GS.

Are you serious? Why go from 5.1 to 6.1 on an ipad2? You loose a good app like google maps (the one for ios6 is iphone only, not universal) and gain nothing useful in return. You also have to then spend another hour or two or three reconfiguring everyting installed, selecting the cydia packages (yes, there is a restore, but it is not foolproof), etc. All for what?? And you risk getting errors and rendering your JB useless.

I will still buy MacOS because it is still much better than Windows, but I am done with anything IOS. My new devices will be android. Got tired of dealing with apple.

It's funny that people complain about Apple patching the jailbreak. Yeah, I agree, the tweaks are wonderful, and yes, Apple should implement some of the changes, however jailbreaking is essentially hacking into the Apple system. Why wouldn't Apple patch it?

Also, those wondering about the reason the iPhone 4 can still be jailbroken while the 4S and 5 can't - it has to do with a different type of exploit used. The 4 has a bootrom exploit, which means that unless Apple made a hardware change to the iPhone 4, they wouldn't be able to patch it. It wouldn't make sense for them to fix the hardware problem for the 4 when the 4S was going to come out soon, so they just left it.

5.1.1 was great because it was Jailbreakable AND was the last Jaulbreakable iOS with Google Maps as the default map application.

6.1.2 on a brand new 5 jb'd. just went through my packages and made sure they're all tweaks/apps I trust not to bust my phone. everything's like butter (knock on wood).

guess it's time to settle in for a long jailbreak winter.

Could you still restore to 6.1 if your already on 6.1? As in, restore just to fix problems. Or do you need Apple to sign it even for that?
