  • GV Mobile Now on Cydia [ ModMyi Repo ]

Maybe you've seen GV Mobile was tossed out of the AppStore. Apple's "hey, we have apps that do that too... you can't be in here!" attitude is well documented (remember Podcaster? which wound up on Cydia in the MMi repo as well?), and once again a great app has been pushed out of folks' hands so Apple can minimize the competition.

Well don't you worry, all you folks who still wanted the app - we've got it up in Cydia now and you can download away - completely free. Although, if you're nice, you'll toss Sean a few bucks donation for his work.

EDIT: If you were having any issues installing version 1.2, grab 1.2.1 which is up now on Cydia - it fixes the issue!

And for those of you who don't know what GV Mobile is, its brings the power of Google Voice to your iPhone.

Google Voice is NOT a VOIP service, you still need an actual phone plan.

GV Mobile allows users of Google Voice to:
    • dial numbers via the iPhone address book or typing on the keypad
    • Full SMS support (view historic, reply, send new)
    • retrieve and delete recent call history
    • playback and delete voicemails
    • take calls from different phones other than your iPhone
    • enable or disable the phones that Google Voice forwards calls to
    • add or delete phones that Google Voice forwards call to.

Google Voice is currently in beta and invite only, but expect those floodgates to open soon enough when they remove the invite only restriction.

(GV Mobile is not a product of Google).

Why should we pay for this? There is a free version.

It would be awesome if it had push notifications. If so then I'd pay for it but for now I'll stick to the free one.

Check the info/description on GV+. It's written from the ground-up and does quote a few things the free version does not. Well worth the $2

Personally I'll wait until push becomes available if it ever does.

I wish he could somehow hook it into the actual phone app so that it had options to use GV vs your wireless number.

Blackberries already have an app that does just that. Androids too (I think)

Just curious, does anybody know how long typically it takes for Google to send you an invite for Google Voice? I've been waiting some time now and really needed to get on this band wagon...Does anybody have an invite? Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Having the same problem on iPhone 2g. Every time GV tries to sync the app crashes. I can't even download my messages anymore.

I tried updating, reinstalling, etc. Nothing works. What has changed?

      Should be available tomorrow…

Google Voice has always implemented ClientLogin API incorrectly…I’m assuming Google finally got around to fixing it, thus breaking a majority of the Google Voice related apps."
