  • GV Mobile Now on Cydia [ ModMyi Repo ]

Maybe you've seen GV Mobile was tossed out of the AppStore. Apple's "hey, we have apps that do that too... you can't be in here!" attitude is well documented (remember Podcaster? which wound up on Cydia in the MMi repo as well?), and once again a great app has been pushed out of folks' hands so Apple can minimize the competition.

Well don't you worry, all you folks who still wanted the app - we've got it up in Cydia now and you can download away - completely free. Although, if you're nice, you'll toss Sean a few bucks donation for his work.

EDIT: If you were having any issues installing version 1.2, grab 1.2.1 which is up now on Cydia - it fixes the issue!

And for those of you who don't know what GV Mobile is, its brings the power of Google Voice to your iPhone.

Google Voice is NOT a VOIP service, you still need an actual phone plan.

GV Mobile allows users of Google Voice to:
    • dial numbers via the iPhone address book or typing on the keypad
    • Full SMS support (view historic, reply, send new)
    • retrieve and delete recent call history
    • playback and delete voicemails
    • take calls from different phones other than your iPhone
    • enable or disable the phones that Google Voice forwards calls to
    • add or delete phones that Google Voice forwards call to.

Google Voice is currently in beta and invite only, but expect those floodgates to open soon enough when they remove the invite only restriction.

(GV Mobile is not a product of Google).

      lol Stealth.

I feel like a forum babysitter. Why do we have to spoon feed so many of these halfwits the obvious page after page? Is this current Generation that stupid? Every link explains what this is, what it does, and how you get invited, yet these "I-WANT-IT-NOW" dbags are so impatient they ignore everything we tell them. ugh. Morons.

PS, I'm always happy. I'm not in Iraq anymore, so life is always good.

Get you hands the souce code and it woud not be hard. I surprised google left it out. Most "3.0 tested" programs have notification AND Push.
Well, maybe not hard for you. For me? Very hard! Ha ha. Believe me, I'm not complaining. I was moreso asking bc I didn't know if it was there and I was missing it.

And it's not Google that left it out I believe. I think the program was made independently. Quite a feat if you ask me!

I'm happy I snagged GV via appstore when I did. Now that it wont be getting any updates, I might as well switch to the Cydia one.

I just signed up for GV (got the invite after YEARS of waiting) Lucky me I got a number that spells my name.

I wonder why my Google Voice page doesnt show my Google Apps domain's email contacts. In other words I have 1000 contacts when I visit google.com/a/mydomain.com but 0 contacts when I log into google.com/voice I registered and use both with same [email protected] email address.

I previously used my same [email protected] email address with another hosted service, and the [email protected] was used as a generic google checkout ages ago. I wonder if by doing that, my email address has some unused linked gmail contacts it thinks it's supposed to connect with. I asked Google in several forums and even via premium support page with no response after a week now.

Am I the only one having this problem or is it just that nobody really cares?

Army, and ironically 20 years ago today on 28JULY89 I left for Basic at Ft Sill. Spent 16 years in, with Active and Reserves. 13F was my primary MOS, then 95B for the second half of all that. Wounded once by friendly fire, and the best unit I ever served with was 4/7 Infantry, 3rd Brigade of the 3rd Infantry Division. The Marne Division was the definition of professionalism.

      Ok, back on topic.

hey everybody. many thanks to all the good people here for keeping me up to speed on what's happening with the gv/iphone situation. thanks especially to sean kovacs for putting his great app in the repos.

i am running GV Mobile 1.22 on a 2.2.1 jailbroken iphone. i have no problem accessing gv voicemail from the web via safari - downloads and plays fine; however, using GV Mobile, everything works except voicemail playback. It loads up the voicemail history fine, and when I press a voicemail the app indicates it's downloading. then...nothing. i press speaker in the upper right corner...still nada. speaker and headphones are otherwise functional. anyone else with this problem?

      thanks again as always.

Not really up to speed on GV. When did Google announce this? I totally missed it until I heard about it over at iPod Touch fans...

Hey, retard Number 1 and Number 2, and everyone else that keeps asking for "invites". Pay the **** attention! ONLY GOOGLE INVITES YOU MORONS! Not here! Read the goddamn thread. Try a link too while you're at it. All of you asking for "invites" are waterheads and need to get back on the little yellow bus that brought you to our community!

Seriously if I was a mod I'd ban on stupidity alone, and this place would be a Ghost Town with cyber tumble-weeds. ugh!

I guess nobody is reading the previous pages in this thread. Nobody has any invites to send out. It's not like when gmail first started where you could invite a few friends every so often.

The only way to sign up is to submit a request and hope they get to you soon.

I signed up for mine ages ago and just finally got one several days ago.

For those of you wanting to use this App...

      1) Jailbreak purplera1n
      2) Run Freeze -- it's an icon that will appear on your device at the first available slot... This installs Cydia
      3) Run Cydia -- the first run takes a minute and usually kicks you back to the home screen, just re run it after it completes it's updating
      4) Accept and update any of the critical updates it requests to do
      5) Select "Hacker" (may be able to do user, but need terminal support for 1 part)

After all the above are done: (or if you're already jailbroken)
      5) Search for "GV Voice" -- (Default install of cydia will see it). Top-right corner hit Install/Confirm/etc.
      6) Once you see a black screen with small fonts, hit the on-screen button at the bottom (I don't recall if it says return to cydia or reload springboard)

If it will not remember your username/password when you select it to do so, do the following steps:
      7) Back in Cydia, Search for "MobileTerminal", Install/Confirm this install as well
      8) Back at your home screen, find the black icon that looks like a command prompt, tap on the screen and run it
      9) For me, the screen flipped upside-down, but still worked. Type in "su" (no quotes, case sensitive)
      10) For password: "alpine" (no quotes again)
      11) Next type in:
      chown -R mobile:mobile /Applications/GV\ Mobile.app
      Enlarged to show clearly

Hope this helps those that are new to jailbreaking as they want this app (such as myself)

A 3rd revision is already out via Cydia. (they are quick today)

It says it fixes login remembering problems, and crashing problems. I dont think we'll need all those manual terminal steps any more.
