  • Gridlock 2.0 Released With Full iOS 6 Support

Gridlock, a very popular jailbreak tweak among themers trying to make more room for widgets and other miscellaneous stuff, and the occasional Bob looking to make their wallpaper stand out more, has been updated Thursday with support for iOS 6. The new version is called Gridlock 2.0.

The tweak allows the user to put application icons anywhere they want to on a grid on the home screen (like shown above). Normally when you move an application icon, the next icon in line bounces into the place you just dragged an icon out of. Gridlock prevents this, making it so that you can create interesting home screen patterns to make the application icons less of the focus on the home screen and make more room for other things.

The beautiful thing about Gridlock is that it does this without creating fake application icons, leaving icon shadows, or some other sketchy way of making it look like there are empty spaces in between your application icons. Gridlock is 100% true application icon grid-locking for your home screen.

Gridlock 2.0 is a complete re-write of the Gridlock tweak, seeing as how iOS 6 changed a lot of how application icon movement works and made upgrading the tweak a lot more difficult. The developer, chpwn, notes that because it took a lot of hard work to make Gridlock iOS 6-compatible, he is charging a $1.99 upgrade fee for existing owners. Those who don't own Gridlock already will find the tweak in Cydia for $4.99.

In addition to the iOS 6 support, it works beautifully on the iPhone 5. Gridlock is compatible with iOS 3 and later. If you're interested, Gridlock is now available in Cydia's BigBoss repository!

And it's NOT free upgrade to us who already own either. $1.99 to pay - again. But he says its a complete rewrite.

Lol am I the only one who dislikes gridlock? It's honestly just a pain it doesn't have intelligent app moving (like going from full page to another and apps reorganizing etc.)

This needed to be made iOS default years ago. It better be implemented into iOS 7
