Choose Who Gets iMessage Read Receipts With 'SelectiveReading'
Apple gives iMessage users the ability to send read receipts. This feature allows the sender to know when the recipient has read the sender’s iMessage. While some people like this feature and some people hate it, one thing is certain: it could definitely be made better with some additional flexibility.
iOS developer joedj keeps this in mind with his latest release – SelectiveReading
. This tweak will allow the user to choose multiple options for who gets read receipts and who doesn’t, rather than the blunt ‘yes’ or ‘no’ choice that Apple’s gives to users.
For example, rather than just choosing yes or no, the tweak also gives the user the ability to choose an ‘Ask’ option, which will make the device ask whether or not to offer a read receipt each time you receive a message.
In addition to the new ask feature, the tweak also gives the user the ability to enable read receipts for only certain contacts. This feature might be good for enabling for your co-workers, but keeping disabled for your family, that way your co-workers will know when you received your message, but you can still keep your family at bay.
SelectiveReading is works on both iOS 5 and iOS 6 and supports Messages, biteSMS, Messages+, and many other clients that have support for Apple’s iMessage. The tweak’s options are configured via the Messages preferences pane in the Settings application, as shown above. You can grab it right now from Cydia.
