  • Grip - Growl for iPhone

Already released in beta stages through their Google Code page, the guys at networkpx (creators of iKeyEx) are nearly ready to release Grip, a Growl look-alike for iPhone. If you don't know about Growl, you're probably not using a Mac. Growl provides system notifications (and tons of application notifications as well) in a sleek HUD themeable style.

From a translated blog post we see there's currently two notification methods:

    • Using a text pop-up box that appears in the screen must be to relate to, and decide what you want to do.
    • Use of voice messages by using Tziltzol (sic - looks like translator isn't perfect ) or vibration.

No definite word on release date - just "Soon we expect a very big surprise וטובה! "

Once they're ready to release you should see it on Cydia.

thanks to ares07 for the tip

Grip is like Growl for the Mac. Google is your friend.

Just add the repo in the post about yours in Cydia and install it, then configure to your liking in Settings.

Just installed growl from cydia and i really like it but it does not notify me if I get a text. I still get the regular pop up from the iphone for a text is there a way to turn that off and is there also a way to not have the notification bubbles pop up either like telling me I have 3 emails and 2 missed calls?

I'm not sure whether you can turn the SMS bubbles off, for the rest of the things, it's all in the settings.

I tried the .q version of GriP and was unable to get any notifications when I received mail from my work Exchange mail server account. I understand there is a .r version that addresses this issue. Would it be possible to have that version posted in the repo. Thanks.

I installed the latest version, and the program works, but there is no icon for it under settings. Has anyone else experienced this? I have tried removing and reinstalling with no luck.

Nevermind. Something was disabled in mobile substrate. Re-enabling fixed.

That is exactly the same problem that I am having. I have not found any solution to the problem.

is there anyway to remove the "[Push View in" from the message header? It's so annoying. I don't need to know that the messages are "[Push]" and I can remember that if I touch the message it will open the app.

I just want it to state the program name so it looks clean.

I have been messing around the past couple minutes with my grip settings, and well first, i cant seem to get any sms settings installed. I tried installing that impressive pack thing, which also did not work. Maybe its cause i am on 3.1 on a 3g jb, not sure if that matters, but i am using grip version directly off of lightmasters repo the cydia.ipitg.net one

So this is my iphone and grip

      iphone 3g 3.1 jb
      GriP - Growl 0.1-11r installed
      GriP Really Impressive Pack installed

      So my questions are:

      NO SMS
      What is SpringBoard Hook
What is in Really Impressive Pack, cause its not showing up, tried removing, and reinstalling 3 times.

I am searching like crazy trying to find similar problems or anything, but haven't found something close other then this. So there u go.

The idea of this is great, but it doesn't look nice. Elert on the other hand looks perfect, but only does emails.

      Woe is me.

Elert/Tlert mean having to use crap RYP

Grip can do so much more, and now with acess to the message log, itīs superb

RYP (Elert, Tlert) Rocks! Grip Growl is a nice idea, but...nice ideas aren't always seen to fruition.

Once RYP supports push notifications, has a quick access message log like GriP, and stops being a freaking pain in the *** for system stability, you come here again, and we might listen.
