  • Analyst Predicts Mac Sales Will Rebound in Current Quarter

Sales for the Mac outgrew the overall PC market for 26 consecutive quarters until this past December but Apple is expected to see sales improve in the current quarter. Originally leaving many astonished, including analyst Charlie Wolf of Needham & Co., it was noted that shipments fell below PC shipment growth in all geographic regions and segments in the quarter.

The Cupertino California company blamed the Macís poor quarter, in which shipments fell by 22.1% year over year, on a lack of availability of the iMac. They were referring of course to the new all-in-one desktop constrained through the end of the quarter, and Apple still hasnít caught up with the demand.

There are signs pointing towards iMac availability improved, as the NPD Group reported that domestic Mac sales were up 31% year over year in the month of January. As a result, Wolf believes that Apple could be in a position to surpass the overall PC market again in the current March quarter. One thing Wolf did admit was that Microsoftís new Windows 8 operating system could present ďa major testĒ to the Mac, particularly in the business market. The tiled Metro interface employed by Microsoft is seen as being a refreshing alternative to the iPhone and Android devices, but the one question left unanswered was whether the interface will catch on with desktop PCs. Only time will tell.

It's pretty simple. Computers are getting better and faster. Most people aren't PC gamers, or do anything that requires intense graphics rendering and such. Those people have no need to upgrade their PC every two years or so.

Agreed, however with so many consumers new and old I don't think it will stop, it's not like there are official year for people to make the upgrade. Also I'm not calling apple fans specific sheep but a lot of consumers constantly buy new products even if the specs mean nothing but "better" to them. All apple needs to say is its revolutionary and they buy it even though when it comes down too they don't need that much more memory or the new graphics card. People are just sheep in general for new things even if they will end up using a fourth of its potential..
