When taking pictures in iOS, it’s always clear to everyone around you that you’re doing so because you can visibly see the camera interface. For those of you trying to take pictures without being noticed, there is a new option for you. A new free jailbreak tweak called QuickShoot by iOS developer flux will let you double-tap on the Camera application icon from the home screen to quickly snap a photograph.
When you do so, you will not get a preview of the photograph you are taking, and the image will be stored in your camera roll immediately. Additionally, the camera interface will not even show, so no one around you will even know that you just took a picture. Also, if you are not on silent mode, the shutter noise will still go off, so it's a good idea to switch your device to silent mode before using the tweak if you're trying to be inconspicuous.
One thing that’s obvious about QuickShoot is that it takes somewhat underexposed photographs. This is because the camera doesn't really get much of a chance to prepare itself for the current lighting in the amount of time that it quickly shoots a photograph. That being said, the tweak is mostly just a proof of concept at this point in time.
The developer tells us an update is coming soon that will include options for flash, focus, and exposure. For the time being, if you just make sure that you take pictures in high-light situations, you should still be able to take halfway decent photographs. QuickShoot is available in Cydia right now and requires iOS 6.
