For those of you that want to know when someone is composing an iMessage to you, but don’t want to stare at the Messages application waiting to be alerted that they are replying to you, you may want to take a look at a new free jailbreak tweak called TypeStatus by iOS developer thekirbylover.
TypeStatus displays an icon on your Status Bar when someone begins composing an iMessage to you. The icon looks like a chat bubble with an ellipsis inside of it. As long as the typist is composing their message, the icon will show up in the Status Bar, but as soon as they stop typing, or send the message, the icon will stop appearing.
The icon appears in the Status Bar no matter where you are. It works on the home screen, lock screen, even from other applications that aren't the Messages application.
TypeStatus doesn’t come with any options to configure, as it is pretty much a single-purpose tweak that will work on its own when it needs to. Uninstalling it is the only way to disable the tweak if you decide you want to stop using it.
TypeStatus works on all iMessage-capable devices running iOS 5 or later. You can grab the tweak at no cost from the BigBoss repository in Cydia right now.
