CES 2012: Belkin Adds New Dock to List of Thunderbolt Accessories
Earlier today we covered LaCieís eSata Thunderbolt hub
, well Belkin unveiled a more consumer oriented, albeit expensive Thunderbolt dock/hub solution.
Belkinís Thunderbolt Express Dock will feature three USB 2.0 ports, a Firewire 800 port, an HDMI port, a Gigabit Ethernet port, two Thunderbolt ports (one upstream and one down stream for easy daisy-chaining) and a 3.5 mm audio port. An earlier version of the Express Dock didnít include the HDMI port or 3.5 mm port, and both will likely prove to be welcome additions.
Belkin promises the dock will provide bi-directional data transfer rates of up to 10Gbps providing a fast and neat solution to the cable clutter common on many desks. However, the convenience of plugging everything into Belkinís dock and then plugging a single cord into your Thunderbolt equipped Mac will set users back $299. Also, consumers will have to wait until September of this year for the Express Dockís release.
Based on the numerous Thunderbolt products announced at CES this year, as well as Intelís promise to support the I/O technology in PCs this year expect the number of Thunderbolt peripherals to increase exponentially. This wonít be particularly difficult considering only a handful of drives, and other accessories made it to market last year.
