Yet Another Tablet Rumor: Late and Wildly Expensive?
Nov 20, 2009 - 4:27 PM - by pauldanielash

According to a report in DigiTimes, which covers the Taiwanese semiconductor, electronics, computer and communications supply industry, Apple's long-rumored tablet will not be released until the second half of last year. The report also asserts the tablet will come in two models: one with a 10.6-inch display for about $800 - $1000 US and one with a 9.7-inch OLED panel for an almost-unimaginable $2,000 US.

DigiTimes has had a spotty track record on Apple rumors to date, having reported such clunkers as the assertion that all iPods would have cameras in the last refresh of the product line. However, they've had ... [Read More]

Attention Hits Hack in 10.6.2 Enabling Atom Support
Nov 20, 2009 - 6:04 AM - by Messany

Even though some discovered this information weeks ago, only now is it widely coming to light as high-traffic news and rumor sources like 9to5Mac are finally promoting word that Atom support can be enabled by a hack in 10.6.2. And while this news doesn't come as a major shock to anyone, it is somewhat surprising how quickly a fix has come along to effectively "work around" the decision by Apple to drop support for Atom processors in OS X 10.6.2 - a move that effectively killed Hackintosh netbooks.

Quote:
A Russian hacker was able to slap an old Atom-supporting OSX Kernel on the newer Mac OS 10.6.2 build and get it running on his little Atom netbook.

Phishers Prep Apple Attack?

An article on 9to5mac yesterday has a lot of people talking today, as the prospect of a new Mac attack from phishers allegedly looms on the horizon. Although Macs have a mostly pristine imagine for being resistant to virus attacks, phishers are slowly and steadily taking aim at Apple products.

Quote:
We received word this morning of what could be a brand new phishing attack that’s in circulation at present - an email which purports to relate to a recent Apple retail transaction and asks for details of any recent orders. The email (image above) also carries a stuffed file. This contains an ‘exe’ file which will only launch on a Windows machine, as with all such phishing trips, be

Following news that Apple has been touting its rumoured tablet around media outlets, in order to encourage them to adopt the platform, it has now emerged that Apple has been showing the new device to analysts.

ITIC analyst Laura DiDio has claimed that the Apple tablet will come in several different models featuring a 10-12in screen, it will offering a variety of internet connections from Wi-Fi to 3G, and will offer a webcam for video conferencing.

She told CNN:
Quote:
"The tablet will change the game, because Apple will throw down the gauntlet at the competitors, and force them to follow along."
Senior CNET editor Dan Ackerman concurred with DiDio's assessment.

Apple isn't letting any grass grow beneath them in terms of future operating system upgrades.

While most of us are still acclimating to Snow Leopard, Mac Rumors is reporting information today that could soon have us preparing to familiarize ourselves with yet another new version OS X.

Quote:
Evidence has surfaced that Apple is already working on the next version of OS X, presumably to be designated Mac OS X 10.7. The information comes from an entry posted earlier today in a database of changes to the open source "launched" framework, which oversees booting

As the holiday shopping season shifts into full gear, companies are systematically unveiling their post-Thanksgiving "Black Friday" sales opportunities. And if a new "leak" reported by Boy Genius is accurate, Apple will be joining the discount party by offering some fairly impressive deals on a host of products.

According to the leaked flier (which is believed to be accurate) posted on ZDNET, it appears Apple is planning the following Black Friday discounts:

Tablet Speculation Goes Mainstream: "Spectacular Graphics" and a Webcam
Nov 16, 2009 - 1:18 PM - by pauldanielash
Click the image to open in full size.

After months of the tech press and blogosphere spreading every type of rumor about the still-unconfirmed Apple tablet, CNN has gotten into the action. Referring to it as "a magazine-sized, touch-screen, hand-held, all-in-one device that is half-iPhone, half-Macintosh computer," CNNMoney.com highlighted the device in a post today. They talked to a panel of experts who basically recapped the rumors to date, with one significant new speculation: "stunning graphics," better than the iPod or iPhone, and a webcam for videoconferencing.

The story -subheadlined "the everything killer" - made much of how the tablet was being positioned to replace many different handheld devices now in use. According to the analysts surveyed: Laura DiDio, principal analyst at ITIC; David Wertheimer, executive director of the University of Southern California's Entertainment Technology Center; and Zeus Kerravala, an analyst with Yankee Group, the device is being prepared to fill the gap between the iPhone/iPod... Psystar's Apple Lawsuit Suffers Major Setback
Nov 15, 2009 - 12:59 PM - by pauldanielash
Click the image to open in full size.

Psystar's ongoing legal battle against Apple may have been struck a mortal wound on Saturday with a ruling from the U.S. District Court. Judge William Alsup of the Northern District of California ruled that Psystar infringed Apple's copyright to the Mac OS X operating system, and violated the Digital Millennium Copyright Act by modifying the OS to run on non-Apple hardware.

Rudy and Robert Pedraza went into business selling Mac OS X on non-Apple hardware. The Miami brothers won themselves notoriety by not only countersuing Apple after being sued by them for copyright infringement but also claiming that the hackintosh community doesn't know what they're doing. Top This Microsoft! Apple's Newest, Baddest Store Rocks NYC Saturday

It was a spectacle to behold.

The grand opening of Apple's "biggest, baddest" new retail store surprised even some of Apple's most frequent critics. On Saturday morning in Manhattan's Upper West Side, the official unveiling of New York's newest Apple store was, to put it mildly, an "event."

Located at 1981 Broadway, the grandiose, cube-like building with spectacular glass staircases officially offers the single largest physical presentation of Apple products anywhere in the world.

Indeed, it's a showy store for sure, as confirmed by a review from Notebooks.com:
