Apple Insider is reporting that Apple may be courting television networks with a plan to provide a $30-per-month subscription package that would deliver content via iTunes.

The potential service, which may launch as early as 2010, has been kept on the down-low for some time. But the recent wave of information leaks about Apple's allegedly aggressive push for the service likely means its about to debut.

Quote:
Citing multiple sources, Peter Kafka at MediaMemo said Apple's subscription proposal is not based on any specific piece of hardware, like the Apple TV or forthcoming tablet. Rather, the plan

Is Portable Gaming Apple's Next Conquest?
Nov 02, 2009 - 5:39 AM - by Messany

In this morning's Wall Street Journal, the venerable financial newspaper touched on the study published this weekend by DFC Intelligence that predicts that games for the iPhone and iPod touch will be the" principal drivers for growth in the overall portable and mobile gaming market" within a period of only five years.

Although Apple and its designated spokespeople have always offered the left-hand compliment that portable gaming devices like the DS and PSP are awesome yet strikingly inferior to the iTouch, for example, Apple is yet to truly back up that confidence with an all-out push for mobile gaming dominance. I guess you could say that portable gaming just hasn't been their "thing."

But that will likely change.

TomTom Car Kit Incompatible with iPod Touch
Oct 28, 2009 - 4:00 PM - by Messany
Click the image to open in full size.

Apple Insider has learned today that the soon-to-be released TomTom Car Kit navigation dock will "not enable GPS functionality for the corresponding App Store software on the iPod touch and first-generation iPhone."

Although there has been some confusion about this revelation on various message boards around the web today, here's the real scoop. As we already know, the Kit dock is, indeed, compatible with all iPhone models. However, the TomTom app is only compatible with the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G, no matter if the
dock is connected to a first-generation iPhone or iPod touch.

Introducing the Modified Spy Cam iPod

I've seen iPhone and iPods modified for lots of different purposes. But this one takes the cake.

The tech gurus at Slippery Brick have come out with a story on the iPod spy cam.

Quote:
We’ve seen plenty of spy cameras, but this one takes the form of something more commonplace that many of us have clipped to our persons. A fake iPod shuffle. The “Mini MP3 Cam DVR” as it’s called is an old shuffle lookalike with a 1.3-megapixel video camera, a TF slot and a rechargeable battery.
Although I don't actually have the thing (and I don't plan on acquiring one)... [Read More]

Palm Hacks iTunes Again with New Update

Let the update wars continue.

On Saturday, Palm rolled out WebOS 1.2.1, which (you guessed it) lets Palm Pre users work around Apple's last update and once again sync their Palm Pre with iTunes 9.0.1.

Computerworld covered the story:
Quote:
Palm today re-enabled synchronization through Apple's iTunes for owners of its Pre smartphone, ignoring warnings from a standards group last month. The release of webOS 1.2.1 Saturday was the latest in the back-and-forth between Palm, which kicked off the iTunes sync last June with the launch of the Pre, and Apple, which has blocked the practice several times with iTunes updates.
Palm's latest "tactic" also... [Read More]

A lawsuit between Eminem's music publisher and Apple has been resolved... although there are no guarantees that Eminem won't continue the grudge in an upcoming song.

For now, the issue has been settled after five days of trial in federal court. Apple and Eminem's publisher, Eight Mile Style, finally reached an agreement Thursday night that neither side wants to talk about, according to the Detroit Free Press.

The dispute centered around royalties on 93 songs that Apple has been selling on its iTunes music store under an agreement with Dr. Dre's Aftermath Records, which controls the rapper's recordings.

Apple and Microsoft's Big Auditions

In this morning's Washington Post, Rob Pegorano presents an interesting suggestion - one that challenges us to view Microsoft and Apple as two major companies auditioning for new roles in our lives.

Quote:
We need to retire the term "MP3 player." Not only do the newest media gadgets from Apple and Microsoft play more music formats than MP3 -- in addition to showing photos and videos -- they also fill some roles once reserved for high-end smartphones. They can even replace an old transistor radio.
Pegorano suggests that as consumers have demanded more... [Read More]

iTunes 9 Crashing, Failing to Sync with iPod classic

AppleInsider leads with reports, as user complaints on Apple Support forums begin to mount, of crashes under Snow Leopard when trying to sync their iPod classics, and inability to sync or recognize the iPod under different operating systems.

One fix that seems to work in some circumstances is to reset the iPod to factory settings. However, reports have... [Read More]

Today is the moment of truth for Zune. This morning, Microsoft formally launches a "slimmer, revamped version" of its Zune handheld music and video player.

In a solid attempted to take a bite out of the iPod market share, the touch-screen Zune HD - complete with a radio receiver and wi-fi - comes at a lower price than Apple's iPod Touch.

From Reuters:

Quote:
The device has a claim of technical superiority over Apple's iPods, with a state-of-the-art organic light emitting diode screen and ability to relay high definition video to a television. But it will struggle to make an impact on the

leaked iPod Touch prototype had camera
Sep 13, 2009 - 5:42 PM - by pauldanielash
Click the image to open in full size.

Images of an iPod Touch leaked to the blog of XM talk show hosts Covino and Rich and MacRumors last month showed a camera near the top of the device, in exactly the location of the 6x6x3mm cavity on the released Touch.

A comparison of the leaked images of the device's internals with the iFixit teardown, meanwhile, shows that the leak was genuine. So it seems clear that Apple had intended to put a camera in the 3rd generation iPod Touch. The question is - given the hoopla... [Read More]
